"Freddie Freeman decided that every single day he was going to remind me how close I was," Upton said. "I finally got it done tonight."
Upton's blast came on the 10th pitch of the at-bat, an 84-mph changeup. He fell behind 0-2 before working his way up to a full count. Upton, 26, then fouled off three straight pitches before homering to tie the game at 1.
B.J. Upton, 29, also achieved his 1,000th career hit and 500th career RBI in 2014, doing so with two different swings on April 26 and July 18, respectively.
"A thousand hits and 500 RBIs all in the same swing," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "That's something you can talk about for a long time."
