Peraza homers to lead Double-A Mississippi

Second baseman Jose Peraza, the Braves' No. 4 prospect, hit his first home run since being promoted to Double-A and scored three runs Monday, helping Mississippi to a 7-4 victory over Jackson.

Peraza went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs. His hitting streak, which began June 1 when he was still playing with Class A Advanced Lynchburg, reached 19 games.

Peraza began the season with Lynchburg and hit .342/.365/.454 with one home run and 35 stolen bases in 66 games before getting promoted after the Carolina League All-Star break last week. In the first half of the season, he led the league in batting average, stolen bases and hits (97).

In five games since joining Mississippi, Peraza is 12-for-23 with 10 runs and two stolen bases. He celebrated his 20th birthday on April 30, making him the third-youngest player in the Southern League.

Overall this season, Peraza is hitting .355 with two home runs and 37 stolen bases. He leads all Minor Leaguers with 109 hits and ranks second in stolen bases.

After splitting his time between second base and shortstop earlier in his career, Peraza has moved to second base full-time this season. He has played well at the position, committing just eight errors this season. His errorless streak stands at 19 games, matching his hitting streak.
