Jackie Robinson Youth Baseball Invitation this Saturday

|

In honor of the 66th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball, the Atlanta Braves will host the Second Annual Jackie Robinson Baseball Invitational, presented by Delta Air Lines this Saturday, April 13. Sixteen teams, ranging in ages from 5-12 years old, have been invited to the Braves Baseball Academy at the Villages at Carver YMCA to compete against each other in a free tournament to honor Robinson’s legacy. Games will take place from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.

The tournament will consist of each team playing a minimum of two games in double elimination format. The winning teams in each age division will receive a championship trophy and all teams will have the opportunity to take a photo with former Braves outfielder Brian Jordan. Jordan will speak to the children on the impact of Robinson’s legacy in baseball and in his own career.  His best-selling children’s books entitled, “I Told You I Can Play,” “Overcoming the Fear of Baseball,” and “Time-Out For Bullies” will be available for purchase. Fans purchasing books will receive an autographed photo of Brian Jordan.

All participating players will receive a copy of “Jackie Robinson: American Hero,” an all-inclusive biography about Robinson's life and achievements written by his daughter Sharon Robinson. All players will receive a commemorative Jackie Robinson Invitational t-shirt and Braves promotional items.

On Monday, April 15, Major League Baseball celebrates Jackie Robinson Day around the league and the Atlanta Braves will celebrate his legacy on Tuesday, April 16 as they take on the Kansas City Royals. Participating teams from the Jackie Robinson Youth Baseball Invitational will receive complimentary tickets for Tuesday’s game and will be recognized during a pregame presentation.
