SAN DIEGO -- Right-handed pitcher Zeke Spruill and infielders Edward Salcedo and Nick Ahmed headline the list of six Braves players who will compete in this year's Arizona Fall League for the Phoenix Desert Dogs. The team's manager will be Aaron Holbert, who spent this summer as the manager of the Double-A Mississippi Braves.
Spruill, Salcedo and Ahmed all rank on MLB.com's list of the Braves' top 10 prospects. Other Braves scheduled to play in the AFL are catcher Matt Kennelly and right-handed pitchers Gus Schlosser and Cory Rasmus.
Salcedo has batted just .153 this month and shown some other signs of fatigue as he prepares to end this season with Class A Advanced Lynchburg. The 21-year-old third baseman has hit .236 with 14 home runs and a .687 OPS in 124 games.
Ahmed, a talented shortstop taken in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, has batted .261 with 38 stolen bases and a .761 OPS in 124 games with Lynchburg. Spruill has gone 9-11 with a 3.69 ERA in 26 starts for Mississippi.
