Soriano's return could come soon

ATLANTA -- Rafael Soriano could be just one more test away from rejoining the Braves' bullpen.

After allowing one hit and completing a scoreless inning for Double-A Mississippi against Tennessee on Wednesday night, Soriano reported no alarming discomfort in his right elbow. He's scheduled to pitch again for Mississippi on Friday, and if all goes well, he'll likely then be activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Soriano began this season as the Braves' closer and was then shut down after just four appearances because of elbow discomfort. The 28-year-old right-hander has spent much of the past five weeks bothered by some pain in his elbow.

But while facing four Tennessee batters during Wednesday's first inning, Soriano didn't have any apparent problems. His fastball was clocked between 90-93 mph and he was able to throw his slider without any restriction.
