ATLANTA -- The Braves recalled infielder Brandon Hicks from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill Chipper Jones' roster spot. Jones will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.
Hicks went hitless in the five at-bats he totaled during two previous stints with Atlanta this year. The 25-year-old is regarded a highly-skilled defensive asset. He will likely remain with the team until Martin Prado is activated from the disabled list.
With Omar Infante and Brooks Conrad currently pushed into starting roles to compensate for the absences of Jones and Prado, Hicks and Diory Hernandez will temporarily serve as manager Bobby Cox's backup infielders. Eric Hinske can play either of the corner infield positions if necessary.
