Jurrjens getting closer to return

LOS ANGELES -- Braves righty Jair Jurrjens threw 25 pitches and used his complete repertoire Friday afternoon in a batting-practice session at Dodger Stadium.

"Everything was OK. We'll see how he feels tomorrow," pitching coach Roger McDowell said. "But, tentatively, he'll throw another batting practice [on Sunday]."

Jurrjens has been on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring since April 30. He was nearing a return in mid-May when he aggravated his hamstring running in Milwaukee.

Jurrjens' pitch count will increase slightly for Sunday's potential BP session, McDowell said.

"I'm just trying to build my arm strength," Jurrjens said. "You're not going to just throw me out there in the game and try to go eight or nine innings."

Jurrjens has missed 32 games, which includes the Braves' takeover of first place in the National League East and their current nine-game winning streak.

"It's definitely hard when you want to be a part of a team and help them win," Jurrjens said.

Jurrjens is 0-3 with a 6.58 ERA in five starts. He battled shoulder inflammation in the spring.
