Former Braves minor-league catcher José Yépez is in his second season on the Atlanta staff after joining the club as a bullpen catcher in May 2016...He began the 2016 campaign as a coach with the Class-A Rome Braves.
Yépez enjoyed a 15-year minor-league career, from 2001 to 2015.
He signed with the Braves as a minor-league free agent in November 2011 and spent the last four years (2012-15) of his playing career with Triple-A Gwinnett.
Prior to joining the Braves in 2011, Yépez played four seasons in Seattle's system.
After starting his career in Toronto's system, he also played in the Venezuelan League.
Yépez, 35, is the general manager for the Cardenales de Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League.
A native of Carora, Venezuela, he now resides in Clearwater, Fla.
